A Stranger’s Poetry

I had just finished perusing the Union Square holiday market where I, of course, spotted a dog shop and bought Rudolph a wool sweater. As I was heading to my train I saw a few folks huddled around this poet. I couldn’t help myself. Sure, I had a train to catch at Grand Central but that could wait.

A New Journey

A quick poem inspired by the new job I start tomorrow…and a look back on where I’ve been these past few years!

A life no longer measured by school bells,

fresh notebooks, shoes and pens.

But by the working days and hours,

again, again, again.

Memories all jumbled,

months flow into years.

The pursuit of love and happiness,

drizzled by loss and tears.

But with growth comes opportunity,

and the chance to start anew.

A journey to embrace,

a journey to pursue.

That time I interned at NBC Nightly News (2012) and got to film a demo tape:

And then all the interns got to grab a photo with then anchor, Brian Williams:

That time my school thought I was the poster child for Journalism co-ops (this is still the current pic on the site ahhahah):

That time I graduated (2013) and decided to make my cap look like a ransom note:

And then I landed a job at ABC News, Nightline after graduating (2013-2014):

And then I decided to work at NBC Nightly News again for a bit (“a bit” = three months, 2014-2015)…

and then I said, f-that-shit, I’m going to temp and travel the world instead:

I graduated from Northeastern nearly three years ago and I’ve been able to have some really incredible experiences since then.

Looking forward to this next chapter; hope you’ll join me along the way!

Beauty is not a pixel

Mirror, mirror on the wall,

Who’s the loveliest of them all?

It’s you! It’s you! It’s you!

Don’t you dare feel so blue,

A like, a follow – none are true,

For they are digital and you are you.

A human. Being. Breathing. Living and

made of stars.

While a computer screen is but a jar.

Of lies, cries,

trolls in disguise.

Ditch the trends, they never end, they’ll swallow you whole.

But I like-

I want-

I need-

No, stop.

You have control.

We need to love and laugh and learn a lot,

for we’re fragile and prone to rot.

So break away from screens too bright,

for they are nature’s growing plight.

Have you lately seen the sky?

The expanse of nature,

far and wide?

Don’t take for granted what’s enchanted,

embrace the here and now.

For tweets on Twitter

cannot deliver

the sing songs of a sparrow.

Curse the cursor which gives a voice,

to those who think they have the choice

to bully, mock and spew their hate

behind a window made by Gates.

Donate your time and get offline,

beauty is not a pixel.

Read a book, ride a bike,

just don’t do it for the like.

Smile for what’s real, not the appeal

of what it may look like to others.

For the filtered veil will one day fall,

And then, my dear,

what? What will you have at all?
